Sitting inside the house with about 6 inches of snow outside, I'm wondering how many of us have stayed in our tipis during snow?

    For how many days?

    Where was your location?

I have a friend who's in college in the mountains of NC and lives in his tipi year round, burning wood in a wood stove for heat.

I've had mine up in snow before and have stayed in it for several nights but nothing major.
    DANCING IS EVERYTHING!!!!

I love my tipi's. I'll never be homeless with them.

Yeah , I have a 22' canvas , with a liner and I've been in some real severe weather , and some really cold weather......You just have to be prepared ! I have a good cot , a couple heavy Whitney blankets , a good sleeping bag , etc , etc.......Fire pit in the center and all is well !
I believe blood quantums are the governments way to breed us out of existance !

They say blood is thicker than water ! Now maple syrup is thicker than blood , so are pancakes more important than family ?

There are "Elders" and there are "Olders". Being the second one doesn't make the first one true !

Somebody is out there somewhere, thinking of you and the impact you made in their life.
    It's not me....I think you're an idiot !

      I have a 19 1/2 Reese with a liner and extended ozan.

I sleep on the ground, on an air mattress, plus up to 5 wool blankets and/or a good sleeping bag as well.

In the cold (and hard rain), I'll use the ozan for the warmth.

I'll also let the liner to hang down straight so there's less space I have to heat.

I have heated with wood but use a LP Gas Campfire for the most of the past 12 or so years. Makes it easier to sleep through the night. ;-)

I actually grew up with some Native friends who lived in a tipi year round and lived off the land. I really admired them.

        I don't think I could do it.

But, I think Sarah Palin could! *L

I think having a tipi on the White House Lawn would be good. Maybe it would change the atmosphere in Washington.

                  war,

I hear ya. Right now if I had a choice at a powwow of staying in a tipi or a casino hotel I would pick the hotel. I guess some of us have become spoiled?

When I do tipi displays at powwows, I'll usually stay in the tipi, hiding all my "modern" stuff (air mattress) under wool blankets or in leather bags.

BUT if the powwow committee wants to put me up in a hotel for free,
::::: WHOOSH::::::: I'm in the hotel, especially in the summer when it's hot and the hotel as a swimming pool.

                          TW,

There is actually a compromise of luxury and tipi living....

My dad takes dancers to perform at a resort in Missouri in the summer. At this resort, they have tipis as one option for accommodations. Near the tipis are picnic tables, permanent fireplaces, assigned parking, recreation facility, swimming pool, restaurant, etc.

When they first asked my dad if he would like for he and his dancers to to stay in the tipis, he said, "No thank you. We'll stay in the resort!"
Powwows will continue to evolve in many directions. It is inevitable.

                            war,

I remember those days too. While on the powwow trail I've camped in Sioux Valley, Manitoba, Poplar, Montana, Anadarko, Oklahoma and probably a hundred other powwows.

                            But I'm spoiled.

This NdN likes air conditioning in the summer, heat in the winter and hot private showers! I'll take a hotel anyday over a tipi!

                              Yes , although I started out in a tipi ,then a tent , pop-up camper , bigger pop-up , small older class A , back to a 5th wheel , I have now decided it's much easier....and cheaper to just get a motel !
I think also as we mature we appreciate the comforts of our years of hard work and struggles more than when we were young !

Although I have 2 tipis , an 18' and a 22' , I rarely set them anymore....Probably haven't had either one up but once in the last 3 years , and that was only as a favor to a friend ........I didn't sleep in it ! LOL
But , with that said , if I HAD to camp , for any length of time , I'd prefer a tipi to a tent any day !
