  • Accessories/Hand Items

Hope everyone's week is going well. I was interested in seeing what Traditional dancers are carrying as accessories these days, especially up north. At the few powwows I have been to lately, I have seen the usual beaded sticks, fans, and shields. Was just wondering what others are carrying. Thanks for your time.

        items carried

When I dance I carry my shield, wing fan and beaded stone warclub.
At break, I switch to carry my Eagle foot dance stick.

          I'm wondering about fans.

As far as Gourd Dance is considered, do they have to be the loose style, or will a wing fan suffice?

I did my research and think my search function is not working.

          Thanks for your input!

What do you think of wing fans? I've seen them being carried by a variety of dancers, including straight dancers. What types of fans do you all use? I prefer a loose fan with eagle feathers...

What kind of fan do most of you dance with? Around here I see mostly eagle tail flat fans. Just wondering if that is what everyone uses.

A new question to ponder, is it appropriate to make flat fans out of Macaw feathers? Since the Native American Church uses them for spiritual reasons.

I am not recognized and I have been told by some dancers that it's a better alternative to eagle.

There is also another question I wanna ask all you southern straight dancers out there. Why is it I go out to powwows and see the southern straight dancer carry TWO taildancer canes and some times See a dancer carry TWO tail-canes and TWO fans. What is the significance on that. I'm not gonna mention...
