I started out with a flat fan when I was younger because, well, I couldn't afford anything else. Now, I dance with a wing fan - not just wing feathers, but a whole wing - that some friends of my brother in Hawaii made for me. I prefer dancing with it, instead of the flat fan, for obvious reasons now.

    Hi
I use the wing feathers for my fan. No tail feathers here.

Flat fans have always been used down south in OK, mainly by straight dancers. It's only been recently that I've seen NTD use them in their regalia. Mostly it's been contemp NTD who wear them, and even that started in OK too.

Both tail and wing feathers look very handsome. It is an honor to carry them and a blessing to dance with.:Chatter

I think they are great for contemp tradish, but most northern (old-school) tradish carry a wing fan. Black & Whites look awesome IMO, but there's still something to be said about the old, dark birds with lightning marks on 'em!
