  • Traditional Northern vs. Contemporary

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I like traditional myself but I also listen to a lot of contemporary. I think I just enjoy the lower pitch of traditional better. How did contemporary become a separate category anyway? By the way thanks for the Karma points!

It's funny you said that. I don't know if you were kidding completely but that seems like a very likely reason. Maybe southern singers should follow suit.

        Name change!
        by Mato Winyan
I don't know how many of you noticed but we have undergone a name change here. Our category is no longer called Southern Cloth, but instead we are now called Cloth, and will include both Southern and Northern now.
Since both Northern and Southern dancers will be included here I would for us...

        Combining Categories
        by Wojapi4Me
There's always talk on here and questions asked of pow wow committees about combining categories. What is everyone's honest opinion of this?

I think that women's traditional dancers have it worse than anyone. They frequently have to dance in a women's traditional category that would...

        What is "Northern?"
        by WhoMe
It seems the term "Northern" has many different meanings. We all have seen it used at powwows to describe dances, songs, drum groups, etc.

        So what exactly is "Northern?"

If I lived in Northern Texas, California or Florida could I tell the people who...

        The high stepping thing
        by Ayita16
When i went up to hollister i saw a style in southern cloth that i have never seen before. Its the step where u dance on your toes. Personally to me i think it looks horrible and just too bouncy. Well i hope ya'll know what i am talking about.
        Whats your opinion on it?
